adina (an Aboriginal meaning
KLizard Plain) is the largest
town on the Yorke Peninsula of South
Australia.
Situated 148 Km north west of Adelaide,
the town has a population of around 4900
people and is a thriving commercial
centre.
Along with the nearby towns of Wallaroo
and Moonta the area is also known as
$XVWUDOLD¶V ³/LWWOH &RUQZDOO´ GXH WR
the large settlement of Cornish copper
miners who lived in the region following
the discovery of copper near Kadina in
1859.
As with cities and towns across the
continent, the public demand for moving
pictures on the Copper Coast was no
different and picture shows became
1921. established in the Town Halls of Kadina,
Wallaroo and Moonta.
On the 26 November 1920, a site on
th
Graves Street Kadina was purchased by
the newly formed company, Peninsular
Entertainments, for the construction of a
picture-theatre.
The theatre was constructed by Messrs
E. Colgate and Son to plans by the
architect, Mr Chris A. Smith.

and set at the required angle and high
enough for everyone to obtain an
unimpeded view from all parts of the
theatre
The design and appearance of the
new theatre was similar to established
theatres in and around Adelaide, such
as the Pavilion, Adelaide, the
Empire at Port Adelaide
and the theatre at
