The auditorium is in the Rococo style of architecture with two boxes at the dress circle level. Seats in the stalls and dress
circle are rose pink, the front upper circle seats are blue, the rear section being unupholstered fonns. The theatre seats
I 320 and can accommodate an orchestra of I 09 players.
The proscenium is rectangular and the ceiling contains a dome, but no chandelier. The original chandelier is believed to
be somewhere in Sydney and the theatre Trust would be pleased to hear of its present location.
As a cinema the screen needs to be heavily sloped as the projection beam is at an acute angle. This situation means that
the image is unsatisfactory in the stalls and these seats are not sold for ftlms. Films have been tried again in recent years
but because of the abo,ve situation and as live shows have priority they have not been successful.
In 1999 the adjacent building was acquired to allow for more foyer space, a bar area and additional toilet facilities. The
wall colours of the upstairs foyer are royal blue with the ceiling in a variety of pastel colours. TI1e original foyer carpet
has been repositioned and surrounded by a dark blue border which extends through to the new area.
Entry to the upper circle is via a separate door from the street leading directly to the stairway. In the future the Trust
would like to improve on this spartan and old fashioned entry to improve both the access and the image of the upper
circle.
The Royal seats 1362 (Stalls 738, Dress Circle 274, Gallery (Upper Circle) 342, Boxes 8) The proscenium arch opening
