C INE M A RECORD
Frankston Drive-In to be Remembered
A plaque will be erected to mark the site of the old Frankston Drive-in theatre in Skye Rd. Frankston. Mayor Bill Parkin has
called for the site to be recognised as a significant part of the city's history.
He told a recent council meeting that former drive-in owner Lloyd Worland should unveil the plaque. "It is just that the drive-
in theatre is part of Frankston's history and drive-ins themselves are gone," Cr Parkin said.
The drive-in opened on 20 acres in Skye Rd in 1956 and was closed in 1987. Initially the drive-in had only one screen but in
1982 Mr Worland added a second. The site was sold in 1988 and was turned inio a housing estate.
