           Profile Of a Patron :                                                                  Pete Smitli.


          Born in Melbourne, Pete Smith was educated at Wesley College, and on leaving school, joined the Australian Broadcasting
          Commission.

          He stayed with the ABC for eight years,  initially as  a messenger boy, before graduating to announcing, on both the home
          service and also Radio Australia, broadcasting throughout the world on shon-wave.

          In the early years of television, Pete was associated with the ABC's Channel 2, where he was presentation announcer, variety
          host and compere of his own weekly Spons View Hit Parade each Saturday afternoon.

          In  1963, Pete joined Channel  9,  home of the Graham  Kennedy program "in Melbourne Tonight",  irn  which he presented
          commercials, appeared in comedy sketches and on several occasions, acted as compere.

          Over the years at Channel 9, Pete has been seen as on-camera host for numerous specials.  He was a National  Nine newsreader
          for three years and is currently the station's voice-over man, promoting forthcoming programs

          Pete was associated for many years with  Ben Newton on the long running "New Faces" talent show and on Ben's Tonight-
          style show. During the late seventies he was also the host of his own "Tonight Show" on NWSS in Adelaide

                                                                                 as a "Good Guy" ... with Bert Newton
                                                                                 on the Greater  3UZ as it  was  then
                                                                                 known, and  on 3AK with comedian
                                                                                 John Blackman.

                                                                                 Pete  has  worked  with  The  D-
                                                                                 Generation on Iadio and followed
                                                                                 them  on to ABC-TV with  their well
                                                                                 remembered "Late Show" series (who
                                                                                 could  forget  the Aerosmith send-up
                                                                                 "Dude looks  like  a  lady?).  Pete also
                                                                                 made  a  guest  appearance  on
                                                                                 "Frontline" and performed in cabaret
                                                                                 with Tony Manin,  Mick  Molloy and
                                                                                 Judith Lucey.

                                                                                 On Channel 9, Pete was involved with
                                                                                 Ernie Sigley  and  Denise  Drysdale on
                                                                                 their  weekday  morning  program
                                                                                 "Ernie and  Denise".  He  is  also the
                                                                                 long-time announcer whose voice
                                                                                 booms out nightly to welcome viewers
                                                                                 to the world's richest television quiz
                                                                                 "Sale Of The Century".

                                                                                 In  the commercial  sphere he also
                                                                                 represents the  nation-wide chain of
                                                                                 COPPERART stores.

                                                                                 Currently on  radio  across  Australia,
                                                                                 Pete  is  associated  with comedians
                                                                                 Tony Martin and Mick Molloy on
                                                                                 their top-rating Drive-Time show
                                                                                 "Manin Moltoy" _

                                                                                 Pete is currently the longest serving
                                                                                 on-air  personality  at  GTV  in
                                                                                 Melbourne. May  1998.
