CINEMARECORD
The Windsor opened in 1937 and vestiges of it's art deco design remain. Entrance is from the Peel Street side, facing the
railway station. A video rental store continues in the old entry foyer and back stalls areas. Upstairs, the cafe occupies the dress
circle foyer and an all-glass extension has been buill above the video store. New toilets and a kitchen are accommodated
under the dress circle floor.
Channel S!'xen were clearing their sets from the auditorium after the previous night's 'Live and Kicking' TV show, and it was
a hive of activity.
Seating and tables follow the stadium style tiers of the original design with a flexible performance space in front of the
proscertium. A vast amount of lighting and sound equipment has been added to the ceiling and although no longer in use, the
glass-strip ceiling lighting has been restored as a decorative feature. Two plaster stereophonic sound boxes, introduced with
CinemaScope in the mid 50s remain on the walls. The spacious projection room has been converted to a reception area,
suitable for pre-dinner drinks etc.
Our thanks to our hostess Ann for showing us around the Empire and allowing us to photograph the theatre.

My first cinema record, some may like it, some may hate it ,At this point I would like to draw attention to the fact that the
content of Cinemarecord and all CA THS publications are copyright to CA THS and the owners of photos used. Material
used from historical publications will be given full credit. Permission must be obtained from the editor or publications
committee, to reproduce the contentS of Cinemarccord.
On a lighter note it has been both a challenge and a pleasure in putting this publication together, it relies on input from
members to fill irs pages, all it takes is a short story on some aspect of the cinema or theatre industry in Victoria. There must
be so many of you that have a story to tell, please put pen to paper and share them with us all.
Thanks must go to Peter O'Reily for his vision of a magazine of a constant standard of which we all can be proud of. One that
reflectS the interests of a group of people with a wide interest range in cinema and theatre. I will do my best to maintain the
standard.
