Snowy Gamble’s World of Cinemas

          Above and on opposite page: Cinemas of Bridge Road Richmond, west to east, which were all on the north side of the road;
          The National, photographed in 1992 when it was available for lease. It was an independent, its programs in Week One of suburban
          release. Hoyts Cinema (exterior and interior), now a retail premises, and the Theatre Richmond, the shortest-lived cinema of the three.

          Above: Further east on Swan Street, the Burnley
          Theatre in 1992. This was a Week One
          independent like the National, and only three road
          km. away from it, well within the range expected of
          a switcher.
          Right: The Globe, Church Street about 1920.
          Located near the corner with Swan Street, this
          theatre was given a new façade in the 1930s.
          Also an independent, its programming was linked
          to that of Hoyts, in Week Six.
