When one of the potent symbols of old Hollywood lends itself to contemporary activity it has achieved what the moguls dreamed of
- a permanent place in western culture. In other words, Paramount’s mountain has become a meme.
The Age, Saturday 21 April 2008.
The mountain is the most durable of the studio logos. Chunky stars around a soft-focus peak first appeared in 1916 and stayed that
way - although sharpened up by VistaVision - for the next 50 years.
The stylised version seen here appeared in the mid-1960s when Paramount was taken over by the conglomerate Gulf+Western.
Today, computer-generated imagery has given the mountain and its crown of stars a new sheen.
