Entry Foyer of Capitol Theatre - By John MacCabe
The new theatre reflects that land shape with unusually high foyers and sharply raked balcony. A memorial
plaque installed by the theatre management to Betty Pounder, J.C. Williamson's ballet Mistress is a nice touch
in the foyer. I had not seen "Beauty and the Beast" in Melbourne. The show is beautifully mounted and pre-
sented with great enthusiasm by a large cast which includes such favourites as Bert Newton, Ernie Bourne and
Toni Lamond.
Day 2- The only other city cinema to survive the great Sydney demolition derby is the STATE in Market St.
Maintenance work was proceeding in the foyer and inspections can be arranged via a telephone booking
service, according to a notice board. Quite a long list of concerts were advertised plus the forthcoming season
of "H.M.S. Pinafore". This spectacular theatre is in excellent condition and is well worth the visit.
