A SNAPSHOT IN TIME


                                                  Before television, the only place to actually SEE what was happening in Australia and the
                                                  world was at the pictures. Dedicated Newsreel Theatres started in the early 1930s, but the
                                                  newsreel was also an important part of the program at all theatres. For big events, often
                                                  related  to  sport  or  royalty,  this  was  an  added  inducement  in  the  cinema's  advertising.
                                                  Whether the audience for a Bing Crosby – Shirley Temple double feature would really be
                                                  excited to see the assassination of King Alexander of Yugoslavia is uncertain!
