Cloncurry: (pop. 3500) The historic open air Bio Cinema appears Clermont: (pop. 2177) The old Paramount Theatre opposite the

the screen and the adjacent cafe empty. The town is now without a the Rainbow Theatre remains. It has been fully stripped inside and has
cinema presence been converted into a shop and residence.
Croydon: (pop 312) At the eastern end of the Gulflander train line,
this small town boasts a few well restored former government buildings.
Amongst them is the Shire Hall, complete with 35 mm projectors in
place. A few reels of film laying about gives the impression it would be
possible to have a picture on the screen in no time!
Surat: (pop. 438) The Astor Theatre which has been vacant
since the 1960s is still standing at one end of the main street, but in poor
shape. Many of the old lay-back canvas chairs remain, but very little
else.
And ... The train trip? Definitely for train buffs only! A one hour trip
would have been nice, but five hours in a noisy, hot and over-crowed
carriage is a bit of a turn off.
