Miniature golf was a 1930’s craze which provided an opportunity to derive some income from
tired cinema buildings while their future was debated at Board level. This 1930 advertisement in
the program booklet for the Regent and Plaza in Melbourne, shows how Hoyts used the stalls
area of their Strand in Bourke Street before committing to re-opening it as the Mayfair. The full
