Grand, Petone (suburban Wellington).
Architect: Henry White 1916. It was given
an Art Deco make-over after the
earthquake in 1942. Films ceased in the
1960s.
State Jackson Street Petone 1935.
(United Theatres). Stadium style was
common in the Art Deco theatres of the
mid-30s to mid-40s.
The gold waterfall curtain at the State
concealed a silver ‘effects’ curtain, the
first in a suburban theatre.
