Older members may remember the gold
grand piano in the circle foyer of the
Melbourne Capitol many years ago.
The remaining six auditoriums are
in predominantly mauve and blue-grey
tones. Their seating capacities and
some comments are as follows:
Cinema 3 86 seats, ideal for groups
and corporate bookings.
Cinema 4 150 seats. Charlie’s Angels
was roaring across the screen during
our visit.
Cinema 5 Approximately 180 seats.
Cinema 6 Approximately 190 seats.
Cinemas 7 and 8 have 274 seats each,
with exceptionally wide wall-to-wall
screens in proportion to the size of the
auditorium.
In a long, extremely spacious
projection room, Cinemeccanica
Victoria Five projectors, Xenon lamps
and Dolby Digital sound complete this
impressive installation. Screenings are
handled by one projectionist, thanks to
platters and other automation. A
second staff member assists on
program change days.
The Victoria Gardens shopping
complex features several leading
furniture retailers. Families crowd the
centre on a Sunday afternoon, the
busiest day.
Anderson Cinemas, originally
from Ballarat now operate at Epping,
Sunbury, Colac, Melton and in South
Australia. The company is to be
congratulated on opening in a location
that has been without cinemas for
many years. ★
