On Friday the 6th of February, at Ken Tulloch's Roxy Theatre in Ashwood, a full house greeted the ever lovely
Alice Faye and Betty Grable in "Tin Pan Alley", one of 20th Century Fox's more enduring musicals. The story is
set during World War 1, and includes old musical favourites "K-K-K-Katie" and "The Shiek Of Araby".

Two groups of twelve attended "Crazy For You" at the State Theatre on the 22nd of January, and "An Ideal
Husband" at Her Majesty's on the 19th of February. Both shows were of the highest standard and brought out
the Gershwin score and the Oscar Wilde wit to the best advantage.

             A Ballarat Time Capsule
CATHS-V was invited by the Queen Elizabeth Home in Ascot Street, Ballarat, to dismantle and collect a projection
room. Yes, a complete projection room, unused for thirty years and about to be demolished for building extensions.
The deadline was Wednesday, 17 December and our technical expert, Stan Gunn, headed an enthusiastic
team comprising of Fred Page, Barrie Wraith and Brian Miller.

Everything had to be dismantled and carried down a steep set of steel steps and loaded onto Stan's trailer.
Nothing had been disturbed over the years, right down to the empty soft drink bottles on the rewind bench, a
thick layer of dust everywhere and a little rust.

The installation was typical of a country hall set-up catering for audiences of up to three hundred. It was
probably acquired by the Home in the thirties or forties. Our crew came through with flying colors, nothing
broken in transit, just plenty of dirt and carbon-dust about.

CATHS-V now proudly possess the following:-

                  (1) A pair of C&W projector heads with a mid-fifties three lens set, including Paradise anamorphics,
                        Australian-made in Surfers Paradise.
                  (2) Pyrox sound heads and amplifier.
                  (3) Hanson carbon transarcs, with eight-inch mirrors and Hanson AC transformers.
                  (4) Zeiss pedestal bases.
                  (5) Twin turntables.
                  (6) A large steel fire-proof two-program spool box and spools.
                  (7) An early No-Smoking sign, despite the inevitable butts in the fire safety sand-bucket!

Ballarat Television Station BTV-6 filmed our efforts and broadcast a short item in their evening news.

Research is continuing to find a new home for the equipment and it seems there is more than gold hidden away
            around Ballarat.
