The first edition (single volume) contained a listing of 790 organisations. This. the fourth edition, contains 4105
entries and was compiled over the period July to October 1996. Over 3,500 data collection forms were mailed
out during the latter part of 1996.
Part 1: The Australian Historical Directory Is Intended as a first-contact guide and entries for organisations,
centres and individual researchers, Includes only name, contact details, and a summary function statement.
Entries, are arranged by State by name. There Is also a locatlonal index listing all entries by postcode. The
Directory has many interesting listings such as the Catswhisker Radio Museum at Chlltern, and Melbourne's
Living Museum of the West at Maribymong.
Part 2: The Guide To The Societies describes In more detail (where provided) the aims, functions and activities
of historical societies. The description detail also includes services performed. special projects, publications
produced, membership and fees, resource materials held, arrangements for public access to any facilities that
the organisation controls, and any other information that the organisation wishes to have listed. Entries are
arranged by State by name.
Two additional listings are included for publications: a titles list and an author list. One of the publications listed
of interest to CATHS members Is. 'It's on at the Union', a history of the Miners Union Theatre, published by the
Wonthaggl and District Historical Society.
The publishers can also provide a mailing label service from the directory data base for different categories and

This magazine is a great resource for film collectors as It has pages of advertisements from feature film dealers.
