HAPPENINGS By Fred Page

I must say again "Wasn't that something" in reference to the talk given by Adeline Mims. The feedback has
been unbelievably positive; comments like "Where did you find that treasure?"; a latecomer said "I've got a
feeling I missed something!" You sure did! Who could believe Adeline was 92 years old let alone it was her
first effort at public speaking. Less than a day later she was "booked up" for an interview for the National Film
and Sound Archive. Her response to all the compliments - "Flattery is very easy to take."

The recording of the talk has been duplicated and copies will be available at the August meeting.

Adeline's talk was followed by the screening of "Two Seats In The Circle" which was enjoyed just as much and
             to which video sales attest.

Having heard the talk it was interesting to compare the two accounts of music for silent films - both conveyed
similar information. 'Two Seats" is a great show, just the kind of film CATHS-V would make if it wanted to
illustrate what the Society is all about. Its the cinematic equivalent of "Picture Palaces and Fleapits" being
almost indispensable to lovers of cinemas.

Due to the generosity of A.T.H.S. supplying a range of merchandise on a sale or return basis our sales table
was doubled in size and sales of both our own and A.T.H.S. merchandise was in excess of $400 which will
             benefit both societies.
Attendance at the June meeting was estimated at about 120 -about half being visitors. Thanks to all members
who "spread the word", resulting in some new members. On checking the Attendance Book I note some
members attended for the first time - please come again.
Thanks to the generosity of Adeline Mims and Roger & Barbara Seccombe we had the best meeting ever and
as usual ran out of time so for the second time the serial had to be deleted. One day we'll get it right!

The July/August event "Jaffas Down The Aisle" opened at the Performing Arts Museum on 25 July. I urge all
members to visit this exhibition which has numerous items supplied by CATHS-V people and, in the main,
accredited to CATHS-V. Arrangements have been made with PAM. to admit CATHS-V members at a dis-
counted entry fee of $3.50 if you present your membership card.
The exhibition is one of the best ever put on and I'm sure all will join with me in thanking everyone who
provided exhibits and special thanks for allowing the Society to be acknowledged.

Further thanks to Denzil Howson who arranged for the audio recording of Mrs. Mim's talk to be reproduced for
sale. See "For Sale", opposite, for further details .
