VICTORIAN THEATRE NEWS by Bannister
Balwyn The stalls area of the Balwyn cinema will be divided and known as Cinema 1 & 2.
Cinema 1, on the western side, is due to open on 1oth of February, 1994, and will run
with existing upstairs, which will be known as Cinema 3 which will be renovated, when
Cinema 2 is open to the public. Cinema 3 will be modernised and extended to a new
proscenium located a little forward of the existing one. It is understood that all existing
backstage areas will remain in the original condition.
Boronia Twin Re-opened under Century cinemas management.
Dromana Drive-In This was twinned in late December 1993, using the screen fromHoyts Altona drive-
in. At the present time all ramps still face the original screen.
Elsternwick Classic In the news a lot lately. The owner claims he may be forced to close as a result of
poor access to films from the distributors, and poor crowds.

Geelong Village Twin About to become a multiplex.
Melbourne Regent Finally it's happening after 23 years of "wasteful emptiness"? The Age, Thursday
27/1/94 said that Melbourne could have a restored Regent Theatre, as early as the end
of next year." The Regent Theatre will be turned into a complex for film, performances
and special events. Rear projection movies of historic racing films were shown
on Thursday 3rd of February as part of the Albert Park Classic.
Moe Drive-In Re-opened for summer trading.
Morwell Multiplex Village want it on the main highway, and the residents want it in town, near transport
and shopping areas. (Perhaps then the kids could go to the matinees).
Parkdale Minor renovations are planned for the old Plaza cinema, now a community hall.
Ringwood Multiplex To open soon.
Werribee Plaza This multiplex is to operate under independent management.
