A SNAPSHOT IN TIME
Drive-in Theatres were opening regularly in the second half of the 1950s. They immediately
found an audience and remained popular for 30 years. These ads from 1956 to 1959 show
that they were soon screening two sessions per night and opening as early as 5.30 to
capitalise on their profitable cafes and snack bars. Oakleigh was even advertising afternoons
for children with pony rides and afternoon tea! Another 1956 week the three Skyline drive-ins
had live magicians!
