DAYDREAM ISLAND
A True Theatre Under The Stars
Daydream Island is located in the Whitsunday Island Group off the coast of
Northern Queensland. With all-year-round warm temperatures, it is a popular
tourist destination and offers a break from the colder southern weather.
Originally known as West Molle Island, it was purchased by retired army major
Paddy Murray and his wife in 1933. The island changed hands several times in
the ensuing years, owners coming and going almost as frequently as guests.
Owners over the years have included airline tycoon Sir Reginald Ansett and
Village Roadshow. The resort is currently owned by Vaughan Bullivant.
Today, the small island (1 km x 400 m) still operates as a tourist resort, and has
won several tourism awards for its amenities.
The semi-tropical temperatures make an outdoor cinema ideal in this location.
The Open Air Cinema screens the latest releases on its 14 metre screen three night
a week.
