On 1 February 1983 they purchased the Orana
Drive-In Theatre on the Albany Highway
and also took the leasehold on the Central 70
Drive-In in Stead Street.
In the same town they also purchased the
lease of the small Downtown Cinema (a
shop conversion) on Stirling Terrace which
operated from 1980-1987.
They immediately closed the Central 70 and
sold the 35/70mm Cinemeccanica Victoria-8
projectors to City Theatres Ltd in Perth.
In 1988 they transferred the operations
of the Downtown Cinema to the (1888)
Albany Town Hall operating it under the
name Cinema One. This venue had recently
been converted from a two-level hall into an
intimate stadium style auditorium.

The arrival of home-video in 1984 had an Drive-In Theatre after closure.
immediate effect on drive-in theatres around
the world and business at the Orana declined
rapidly through the 1980’s.
