Two visitors even came from Tasmania
to participate in what proved to be
wonderful and informative tours of
three magnificent theatres. Our tours
were organized by NSW members Ian
Hanson and Stuart Greene.
The State Theatre in Market Street,
Sydney was the first to be inspected on
the Saturday. The State was the second
of the “Million Dollar” theatres to be
built by Union Theatres in 1929.
Located within a towering office
block, the three-level theatre is entered
via extensive and incredibly impressive
foyers. The auditorium is in the French
style with stunning decoration and
features a magnificent chandelier in the
ceiling dome. The architect was Henry
White.
