There was a time when movies would guarantee top billing in any situation. Here’s the
proof, if any were needed, that shopping in retail malls is now the most exciting
‘entertainment’ of them all. To old-school enthusiasts it seems strange that any cinema sign
could be set so far down the bill, like an nth-rate music hall act. But there’s hope; these signs
may not reflect the true state of cinema in the public mind. (See page 31)
