RECENT HAPPENINGS by Fred Page

Our visit to the West Coburg Progress was well attended and was regarded by all as a rewarding experience.
The high level of maintenance throughout the premises reflect the dedication to show business of the owners,
             David and Eric.

The presentation of film is outstanding, made so not only by Eric's skill as a projectionist, but by the clever use
of dual curtains and controlled lighting. The recently acquired foyer has been tastefully decorated, one
outstanding feature being the huge art deco mirror behind the refreshment bar. This mirror was formerly in an
Adelaide guest house and prior to installation was fully restored. The other dominating feature is the large statue
opposite the auditorium entrance. This figure stands about ten feet high and is an abstract person which was
used as a prop in a Melbourne Theatre Company production.

Imagination has been used at the ticket box as surrounding the counter is a 1940's style fibro plaster artificial
fireplace. While this might sound odd, it really is a stylish extra.

The hospitality of our hosts was superb with real coffee, and biscuits, being provided for us. To top off the day
we enjoyed watching "Robin Hood- Men in Tights". Thanks go to David and Eric for ensuring we had an enjoyable
             outing.

As is becoming a habit, we were too short of time to run our full entertainment program at the February meeting,
the serial 'Spymaster' having to be deleted; but as the films were available, courtesy of Stan Gunn, we were
treated to a series of RKO trailers from the 30's and 40's. (I'd love to see the whole of "Hellzapoppin").

Then it was the class entertainment we've come to expect from Brian Beatty. Brian screened widescreen slides
of some of the places he saw on his trip to North em Europe. The landscape scenes of Finland, Estonia, Tokyo
and Hong Kong were worthy of calendar status. Thanks Brian.

There are now several exciting events on the horizon, not the least of which is the Warrnambool weekend away.
