about 25 years ago. Howevertoday's multiplex have even done away with these units and use 35mm slides (as
opposed to 2~ x 2~ inch glass) in carousel style projectors. Screen results certainly are not what they were with
the glass slides, however cost must be taken into account when the auditorium is smaller and there may be 1 0
            cinemas to equip.

When the first cinema complexes appeared 25 years ago each screen was treated almost as a separate theatre.
Bio boxes were equipped as a single screen cinema would have been. In fact many had separate projection
booths. Until about 15 years ago city complexes required up to 1 0 projection staff for just one shift. With today's
suburban multiplexes of up to 1 0 screens manned by a single projectionist, the wheel of progress has certainly
rolled along, for better or worse.
Today's modem bio box also has facilities for 'interlocks' which enables one print to be screened simultaneously
in 3 theatres, deaf aid loops for the hearing impaired, compact disc for non-sync music and solid state rectifiers,
amplifiers and dimmers. The environment of the projection room has certainly changed, but 35mm motion
picture film is still clattering through the projector, and will continue into the future.
